The building exterior reflects on the business of airports with the airside elevation relating to planes, loading bridges, baggage tugs and fuel tankers, is dressed simply in a steel cladding. The Great Holdroom’s soaring window, glazed and mullionated, provides a view of airside excitement.
“The new terminal building is a symbol of progress without forgetting the past. It stands for strength, success, and new frontiers, just as it is welcoming, comforting and comfortable.”
— Lt. Governor Herménégilde Chiasson
The landside elevation in the form of the canopy, long low shed roof, dormers and skylight elements present’s a human scale for passengers and visitors alike. The façade dressed in local sandstone, projecting warmth and strength anchors the Terminal to its site. The entrances, transparent and protected, welcome all that approach.
The building interior is a giant stage themed by the art and myth of our region. The planter elements, ramps and passageways represent water, shore and river. The flooring patterns represent the land; the curved walls and vertical surfaces reflect forest and woodworking heritage. The transparency of glass and steel, and the upward thrust of the Great Room represent dreams and confidence in the future.
